Travel and Hobbies
Travel and hobbies are my favorite
past-times besides work, art and charity projects. I enjoy being outside biking, walking, driving down Lake Shore Drive. Chicago's skyline is absolutely gorgeous.
Also, I just passed my motorcycle license class and test. Success!! Woo! I will be riding along the streets of Chicago for fun but safely, of course. I enjoy bookstores, cafes,
and foods from all over the world. My favorite past-time is dining with friends and family. To enjoy a good meal with good company is a blessing on earth.
My dreams are to travel across the world within my lifetime. Asia, Europe, South America, Carribean, etc. There is so much to do.
I hope I can squeeze my list all in for my travels. Also, I enjoy playing and watching sports like Volleyball, Swimming, Basketball, Tennis, Golf and Soccer. The Olympics
in Beijing, China was truly an event to watch this past Summer of 2008. Thank goodness for pure golden athletes around the world. They were all amazing.
I do enjoy hosting parties and ski trips as well. I love getting groups of people together and having a good time.
Other creative hobbies include reading, drawing, writing short stories, being an avid film viewer, being an
avid TV watcher (wait, is that a hobby? maybe not, but I am enthralled by the scripts and stories
that give entertainment and joy to people, thank goodness for writers, producers, actors/actresses, media
professionals, directors, etc!), the theatre, musicals, dancing, music (I
used to play piano when I was younger), other mixed media art forms (collage, digital photography, painting, ceramics, etc),
and I always try to feed my curiosity of different creative art forms. You need to keep feeding your imagination
and keeping that spark every child has about the world. Life is short.
My grandmother raised me since I was 3 years old. She lived almost
to be a 100 said to me, "Stella live your life to the fullest. It is very short. Remember always
what is important like being kind and generous to your family and friends
but live your life fully." This advice came from a
lady who lived at a time when women did not have rights in South Korea, she was born in the early 1900's,
she endured the Japanese War, the Korean War; arranged
marriage was the norm, raising 8 children because her husband died early, learning how to read and write from her brothers
who were only allowed to go to school
(she made all her children get an education),
witnessed the first car, plane, radio, television, microwave, plumbing, computers, the internet, every home
having a telephone, cell
phones, etc., and on top of all that
moving to Chicago in the late
1960's. She saw the rise and success of women and her family grow from poverty to middle and upper class incomes.
Still, that was her advice to me. "Live your life fully." I aspire to be the strong woman my grandmother
embodied who could
endure so many life changing events and still enjoy life fully to almost 100 years old. "I miss you Grandma."
So, I'm following my grandmother's advice. In a matter of months, May 2009, I graduate from Graduate School with my Accounting degree. I will be pursuing my accounting and management
career along with my CPA, CFE, PMP. One at a time of course. The next major adventure I will take on will be skydiving in June 2009. I cannot wait! I will be trying good ol' Skydive Chicago on my birthday
June 19. It's going to be a blast! Now, after that, I have a long list. Maybe, scuba diving? I can't wait and tell my stories
to my children and grandchildren to help them dream and make their dream a reality,
just like my grandmother did for me.
